86x30 cm ~ Sculpture, Wood
TERRITORY-S (French version)
These twelve polychrome sculptures were created with an axe and a chainsaw. This work is inspired by that of Georg Bazelitz, a German neo-expressionist painter and sculptor, whose approach I have always admired. I used his carefree and direct technique to further explore my personal pictorial domain. The heads and busts, crafted from cherry or fir wood, present themselves as figures inhabited from within, in a permanent tension, constantly renewed and made visible through the association of forms, materials, and colors.
This work deals with the relationship between space and time, which is at the heart of my approach, and more precisely with the multiplication of my pictorial space, a theme I had never explored before. For me, it's about pushing my limits by immersing myself in the infinite depths of artistic creation, in this territory that is not only immeasurable in its depth but also immeasurable in its capacity to accommodate any form of expression.
My reflection on the interior spaces of creation gave rise to a first version of Territoire-s in March 2023. It continued over time to be renewed in a second version, more focused on temporality and the relationship to death, produced in August 2024. The pictorial space explored is inevitably enriched by the passing of time, which constantly pushes its boundaries towards the abysmal unknown of artistic creation and human existence. Like wood, it is a living and constantly evolving material. Each internal Territory is a space-time in that its immensity is inscribed there, in that it is bound to evolve and in that it is inevitably doomed to disappear.

Just like wood, it is a living and constantly evolving material. Each internal Territoire is a space-time in that its immensity is inscribed there, and is bound to evolve and is inevitably doomed to disappear.
