These twelve polychrome sculptures were made with an axe and chainsaw. This work is inspired by that of Georg Bazelitz, a German neo-expressionist painter and sculptor, whose approach I have always appreciated. I used his carefree and direct technique to push further in the exploration of my personal pictorial domain. The heads and busts made from cherry or fir wood present themselves as figures inhabited from within themselves in a permanent tension, always renewed and made visible by the association of shapes, materials and colors.
This work deals with the relationship between space and time which is at the heart of my approach and more precisely with the multiplication of my pictorial space, a theme that I had never tackled before. For me, it is about pushing my limits by immersing myself in the infinite depth of artistic creation in this territory which is not only immeasurable in its depth but also immeasurable in its ability to accommodate any form of expression.
My reflection on the interior spaces of creation gave rise to a first version of Territoire-s in March 2023. It continued over time to be renewed in a second version more focused on temporality and the relationship to death, produced in August 2024. The pictorial space explored is inevitably enriched by the passing of time and which constantly pushes its limits towards the abyssal unknown of artistic creation and human existence. Just like wood, it is a living and constantly evolving material. Each internal Territoire is a space-time in that its immensity is inscribed there, and is bound to evolve and is inevitably doomed to disappear.
